I'm a bit late writing this but I wanted to let everyone know that it was an awesome event!
I learned a lot!
I was inspired!
I spent a lot of money!
Jason Rose works hard to put on this event and he does a fantastic job of organizing all the details! These events include:
- Live demonstrations
- One-on-one classes
- Giveaways (lots of giveaways!)
The information has already been removed from the website so I won't link to it but the demonstrations I can remember are:
- Stamp blanks
- Bottle cap blanks
- Pen photography
- Flip cup casting
- Polymer clay blank making
- Steampunk blanks
I didn't take any pictures because I was busy learning and buying stuff but I was convinced to buy a pressure pot so that I can do my own casting. Brian Blohm of Caster's Choice did a demo he called flip-cup casting and the result was so awesome that I stopped at Harbor Freight on the drive back home.
Below is a blank I turned that came from the flip-cup demonstration. Each year at these events there is a pen swap so since this blank features the Official 2018 MOVPTG color I think it's only appropriate to return next year with this completed pen.
My goal before next year's event is to make and sell all the pen kits I bought this year and to be doing my own casting for turning projects.
By the way, the two photos below on black background were taken using the method described in the post called How To Turn Your Tablet Into a Photo Studio.
If you're on Facebook be sure to check out the Mid-Ohio Valley Pen Turners Gathering group page for all the details and videos and photographs that everyone posted.
Mark your calendars for next year. The dates have already been announced: 13 - 15 September 2019. Check out the website closer to the event for details https://movptg.com/
See ya next year!
